Wiring/ArduinoWiring is Hernando Barragán's development platform for the Atmel Atmega128, based on Processing. It's a nifty system, useful for teaching. Arduino is an expansion of Wiring by Massimo Banzi, David Cuartieles, Dave Mellis, and Nick Zambetti. It's slightly cheaper than a Wiring board to build, and simpler to build for beginners. It includes Pascal Stang's AVR C libraries, and can accommodate raw AVR C code in addition to Wiring code (much in the same way that Processing can accommodate raw Java in addition to Processing). Massimo's also done some experiments to expand the platform to work on PICs and 8051s as well. Instant Soup is a series of recipes for simple physical computing projects, put together by Yaniv Steiner and Giorgio Olivero, that builds on Wiring and Arduino. Wiring/Arduino are cross-platform (Mac/Windows/Linux), which makes them the most exciting thing in my geek world ever. More on this to follow in coming weeks and months.
